Canadiens centre Lars Eller left unconscious after hit by Senators’ Eric Gryba
The Montreal Canadiens are down a game and a key player early in their series with the Ottawa Senators.
Canadiens centre Lars Eller was left unconscious and bleeding on the ice after taking a big hit from Ottawa defenceman Eric Gryba in the second period Senators’ 4-2 victory in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final on Thursday night.
“It’s tough seeing a guy laying in a heap with blood coming out,” said Canadiens centre Ryan White. “You never want to see that.” (THE CANADIAN PRESS/Graham Hughes)

Ronny Keller, a defender for Olten, in Switzerland, chased a puck into the corner boards. The player in pursuit is reportedly Stefan Schnyder. Contact is made, in a manner not entirely different to what Kaleta did to Richards.
The results were catastrophic.
According to The Associated Press, Swiss doctors have said Keller now has “permanent spinal paralysis” because of damage caused to his spine on the play. The incident occurred in overtime, in a playoff game.
There are reports in Switzerland that police questioned Schnyder over the incident, the AP reported.

Oscar Pistorius has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend after model Reeva Steenkamp was shot inside the Olympic athlete’s home in South Africa.
Police said a 26-year-old male would appear in court later today.

“Every season, both literally and figuratively in your life, is a little bit different,” he said. “This isn’t any different than that in the sense that it’s a different group of guys, it’s a different team. I’ve been here, what, four and a half hours. It hasn’t been much of a spring training yet. And I’m looking forward to getting to know the guys and really engage a lot of different personalities on the team.”
